This article describes the organic contribution to morbid jealousy.
Although the true prevalence of morbid jealousy is unknown, organic factors contribute significantly to its development.
We present an assortment of five case histories to highlight the importance of organic causation in this phenomenon.
The first two cases portray organic delusional disorder arising as an aftermath of cerebral infarcts.
They are both associated with left sided brain lesions.
Though organic processes generally respond poorly to treatment, case 3 patient with head injuryis unusual as it describes a young man whose symptoms resolve on recovering from the effects of a head injury.
Likewise, case 4 patient with a meningioma who made a complete recovery following surgery, emphasizes the need for early detection of reversible causes.
The difficulty in identifying the common substrate for a phenomenon with such a wide variety of causations is amply displayed by the abundance of theories forwarded.
The blurred demarcation between normal jealousy and pathological jealousy leads to further uncertainty.
The excess representation of morbid jealousy in organic conditions is not enlightened by these theories.
Organic pathology, by affecting the higher centers of the brain, may remove the control over instinctual behaviour.
Evidence for this is hard to establish but the evolutionary perspective of jealousy akin to that of the animal kingdom alludes to possible explanations.
Meningioma is a slow-growing benign tumor arising from meninges and is usually asymptomatic.
Though neuropsychiatric symptoms are common in patients with brain tumors, they often can be the only manifestation in cases of meningioma.
Meningiomas might present with mood symptoms, psychosis, memory disturbances, personality changes, anxiety, or anorexia nervosa.
The diagnosis of meningioma could be delayed where only psychiatric symptoms are seen.
Search engines used included PubMed, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Cochrane database and Google Scholar.
Studies reported varied psychiatric symptoms in cases with meningioma of differing tumor site, size and lateralization.
Factors which led to a neuroimaging work-up included the occurrence of sudden new or atypical psychiatric symptoms, a lack of response to typical line of treatment and the presence of neurological signs or symptoms such as headache, seizures, diplopia, urinary incontinence etc.
This review emphasizes on the need of neurological examination and neuroimaging in the patients presenting to psychiatry especially with atypical symptoms.
Romantic jealousy is a complex emotion activated by 4 real or perceived threat to the relationship.
Romantic jealousy is an important phenomenon in public health, as it brings consequences for the subject, the couple and the rival, even to the point of death.
This theory-based study performed a systematic review of the research published in major international databases and platforms, as of December, 2016.
Future studies, with sufficient statistical robustness, should achieve a clinical formulation that indicates the relevance and predictive power of each variable.
We report 4 case of a patient with Othello syndrome caused by two left hemispheric tumors.
This 50-year-old female had experienced seizures for 10 years and developed manic-like symptoms, delusions of jealousy, persecution and приведенная ссылка watched, auditory hallucinations, irritable mood, and violent and disorganized behavior for the past 3 years.
Brain imaging studies revealed two left frontal tumors, the larger of which was causing a mass effect.
The delusions of jealousy in Othello syndrome resolved after removing the larger tumor, and the other psychiatric symptoms improved after treatment with psychotropic medications.
This report aims to raise awareness of Othello syndrome related to disruptions in cortico-subcortical connections in the left orbitofrontal region.
Timely surgical treatment may prevent associated psychiatric comorbidities and узнать больше the likelihood of a good outcome.
Background Morbid jealousy includes a range of irrational thoughts and emotions, with associated unacceptable and abnormal behaviour.
Common forms of psychopathology are delusions, obsessions and overvalued ideas.
Aims To determine the prevalence of morbid jealousy in psychiatric inpatients, describe the different phenomenological forms, and range of associated behaviours.
Methods All inpatients treated at University Psychiatry Unit, NHSL during a three month period were examined.
Those who had 'morbid jealousy' were evaluated regarding psychopathology, emotions and associated behaviours.
Results Of 145 patients admitted during the study period, 76 were in a intimate relationship.
Of these, 35 46.
Mean age was males 49.
Commonest diagnoses were schizophrenia 22.
Morbid jealousy was identified in 13 9 male, 4 female.
Overall prevalence was 17.
Conclusions The prevalence of morbid jealousy is high in psychiatry inpatients in Sri Lanka.
SL J Psychiatry 2013; 4 2 :38-40 Aim: This study presents a case report on the emergence of delusional jealousy and person-directed hostility in a patient following anoxic brain injury.
Case study: The patient did not have a pre-injury history of mental illness, nor a family history of a psychotic disorder.
This patient was followed-up over a 5-year period and his history of treatment response, violence risk Свитшот для девочки JZX90 and successful rehabilitation are presented.
This study also highlights issues in relation to continuation of treatment with antipsychotic medication, use of compulsory admission under the Mental Health Act and principles of risk assessment and risk management.
Delusional jealousy or Othello syndrome OS is a well-described psychiatric disorder 4 paranoid features reported in both organic and functional psychoses.
In organic psychoses, the disorder occurs more frequently among chronic male alcoholics and in demented patients.
To date, only 2 anecdotal cases of OS have been reported in Parkinson disease PD during dopaminergic treatment.
To investigate the presence of OS in PD patients and to study the relationship between dopaminergic treatment, avoiding the possible influence of dementia.
Five hundred sixty-three PD patients without dementia encountered in our movement disorders practice were included in the study.
All patients who developed OS were studied.
Relationships between clinical and familial history and dopaminergic therapy and OS were assessed.
Six patients with OS were identified.
They were all male, with a relatively recent diagnosis of PD characterized by mild-moderate motor deficit.
Dopaminergic treatment had been prescribed at low dosages.
Neither confusional states including agitated confusion nor delirium were associated with OS.
We hypothesize that nondemented PD patients affected by OS do not necessarily present with severe motor complications and may well have a biologic predisposition for psychiatric disorders.
In our opinion this paranoid delusion is rarely considered in PD.
Jealousy in couple relationships.
The clinical presentations are summarised, and the question 4 what is morbid jealousy is addressed.
Issues in the assessment of jealousy in couples are discussed, with suggestions for the areas to be covered.
A framework for the formulation of the problem is proposed.
Finally, the clinical treatment of morbid jealousy is reviewed.
A treatment approach is https://prognozadvisor.ru/black/fotobaraban-sakura-sakxfad93a-fotobaraban-kx-fad93a-cherniy-sovmestimiy-black-6k-dlya-kx-mb2540-kx-m.html, which includes relationship enhancement work and a range of specific techniques.
A case of morbid jealousy within the context of a marital relationship is reported.
The treatment included both couple and individual therapy, using a range of techniques, leading to a satisfactory outcome.
This paper вот ссылка some of the features of the case, and comments on issues related to the nature and therapy of jealousy.
Morbid jealousy is encountered in general, old age and forensic psychiatry, and clinicians in each specialty should be familiar with its recognition and management.
As well as clinical matters, the issue of risk to the patient and others is prominent in the consideration of morbid jealousy.
This review addresses the nature of morbid jealousy, its psychopathology, diagnostic issues, associations, risks and management.
Parkinson's disease PDcommonly defined as a hypokinetic movement disorder, is hampered by the appearance of motor complications MCincluding dyskinesias and motor fluctuations, and non-motor symptoms such as behavioral, neuropsychiatric and cognitive disorders, which, in the last years, are gaining increasing attention.
The factors affecting MC and these non-motor symptoms are still largely unknown and their interactions are not yet fully evaluated.
To identify the presence of behavioral, neuropsychiatric and cognitive disorders 4 PD patients with and without MC and to evaluate their association with MC.
Consecutive PD patients received a comprehensive structured clinical evaluation including pharmacologic treatment, MC and non-motor symptoms such as reward-seeking behaviors, neuropsychiatric symptoms depression, anxiety, psychoses and hallucinations and dementia.
A higher frequency of impulse control disorders was detected in patients with dyskinesias 22.
We found a higher frequency 4 behavioral, neuropsychiatric and cognitive disorders in patients жмите MC.
The lack of detection of dyskinesias in several PD patients with pathological gambling in our study represents a very interesting issue.
While binge eating mainly seems to be related to the use of dopamine agonists, the significant lack of association between dyskinesias and delusional jealousy suggests the hypothesis of a possible underlying psychopathological predisposition rather than a mere pharmacologic effect in PD patients with these https://prognozadvisor.ru/black/schitivatel-ironlogic-matrix-iv-eh-keys-svetliy-perlamutr-s-klaviaturoy-rasstoyanie-6-10-sm-karti.html complications.
Othello syndrome OS is an organic delusional disorder with prevailing jealousy symptoms presumably appearing as side effect of antiparkinsonian therapy.
The clinical spectrum of psychiatric symptoms in Parkinson's disease PD is very wide, including symptoms of depression and anxiety, hallucinations, delusions, with prevalent paranoid symptoms, agitation, delirium and sleep disorders.
At our knowledge, just a few cases взято отсюда patients with PD and OS were reported till now.
The following data were collected retrospectively: sex, age at PD onset, age at OS onset, duration of PD, duration of PD treatment, duration of treatment with dopamine agonists DAstreatment вот ссылка OS, past history of alcoholism, premorbid personality disorder, family history of psychiatric disorders and data about general cognitive condition.
Five PD patients three males with OS were investigated.
The mean age of the patients at the PD onset was 46.
Before the onset of OS, all of them were taking dopamine agonists.
Decrease of dopamine agonist led to clinical improvement in three patients complete reduction of the symptoms in two, reduction of symptoms in one patients.
In two patients, the symptoms remained the same.
In three patients atypical neuroleptics had to be added: clozapine in two and quetiapine in one patient.
We believe that OS is a more common psychiatric side effect in PD patients on treatment with dopamine agonists than usually believed, particulary in those with early disease onset.
It is a very disturbing symptom for patients and their partners, often underestimated by them, and should therefore be actively searched for.

Although morbid jealousy undoubtedly remains a complex challenge to the psychiatrist, the present state of knowledge suggests that with an вот ссылка approach involving chemotherapy, behavioral techniques, and marital psychotherapy, the outlook need not be as pessimistic as is traditionally believed.
The prevalence of delusional jealousy in 8134 psychiatric in-patients was 1.
Delusions of jealousy were most frequent in organic psychoses 7.
Because schizophrenia and affective disorder were the most common diagnoses, most patients with delusions of jealousy were schizophrenics.
In schizophrenia, women were more likely to suffer from delusional jealousy, while in alcohol psychosis, men were more likely than women to suffer from delusional jealousy.
We studied the nature and causes of delusions after infarction of the right cerebral hemisphere.
Delusions involved orientation in time and place, events in the recent past, and the identities of familiar individuals.
Some were transient and disorganized, and others were more fixed.
No particular site in the right hemisphere was associated with particular delusions.
The different delusions may be varied manifestations of a basic disorder of thought and memory.
The major determinant of the delusions was cerebral atrophy.
Age, location, and size of lesion had no major effect.
The superimposition of a new right hemisphere lesion on a diffusely atrophied brain seems to cause delusions that can be expressed verbally because the left hemisphere is relatively preserved.
To report pathological jealousy Othello syndrome occurring in a young woman with a right hemisphere cerebrovascular infarction and to review diagnosis and possible organic mechanisms for the generation of this syndrome.
A 20-year-old woman was admitted to hospital with a right hemisphere stroke associated with a history of severe migraine and the use of oral contraceptives.
The patient made a good recovery with minimal neurological deficits but 5 years later developed the syndrome of morbid jealousy with depression and a near fatal overdose.
Morbid jealousy subsided, almost completely disappearing over a 6-week period of treatment with a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor SSRI.
Case reports of the Othello syndrome and other content specific delusions following right hemisphere cerebrovascular infarction have appeared in geriatric psychiatry literature.
The occurrence of a similar association in a young patient lends support to the suggestion of a causal relationship and has implications for diagnosis, clinical care and research.

The review ends with some reflections on providence and "progress.
The over-arching purpose of this paper is to consider how Lessing dealt with the impact of Spinozist thought and its consequences and to analyse the extent to which he can be said to exemplify a post-Spinozist mentality in dealing with the relationship between freedom and necessity.
It aims to prove not that Lessing was a direct disciple of Spinoza, but подробнее на этой странице he was influenced by the post-Spinozist climate pervading the eighteenth-century intellectual world.
In particular, this paper examines Lessing's exploration of a nexus of causality which has been set out by Spinoza's ideas on freedom and necessity.
In a similar manner to Spinoza, he demonstrates that man's subjection to external causes is balanced by his ability to exert a degree of free necessity, that is, freedom within the necessary constraints of the order of nature and the designs of Читать далее />Furthermore, he parallels Spinoza's thinking in arguing for a necessary causal relationship between virtue, necessity and freedom.
Malignant lymphomas are among the most common hematologic malignancies in man and are associated with substantial morbidity and mortality.
Infections in patients with malignant lymphomas are relatively frequent as a result of multiple immunologic deficits caused by the underlying malignancy and various treatment modalities.
The spectrum of автора Sweatshirt ROBERTO CAVALLI SPORT HYY53F_FN035_05051_BLACK BLACK фраза in this group of patients is much broader than in patients in whom neutropenia is the predominant predisposing factor, with bacterial, mycobacterial, fungal, viral and parasitic organisms — all being important.
A specific diagnosis of infection is sometimes difficult to establish.
On the other hand, multiple infections may be present in the same patient as the same time, or may follow each other sequentially.
Consequently, infection prevention strategies play an important role in these patients.
The interpretation of accidents and catastrophes is been made by explications why instead of comprehensions how.
The theoretical propositions ignore the necessity to express uncertainty and promote the myth of the sacrifice and the rejection of the chance.
The evolution of the use of the cause concept, since the condition of the "savage man" until the practice of the science, is presented as a proposal of explanation.
The review shows that the causal relationship is based on a transcendent conception and a mythical rationality.
Such conception allowed the science to establish "laws", whose validity today, is relative.
The investigation of accidents and catastrophes, in its turn, supports the apology of the myth of harmony and perfection, where only the fault is possible.
To establish cause when the aims are not determined is an arbitrary process that supports the status quo.
Alternatively, it is suggested a clear distinction Peri-operative elevated serum lactate could be a sign of high risk of morbidity among affected patients.
However, this finding can увидеть больше self-limiting and with no consequences in some conditions.
We present a case of transient elevated serum lactate level in a 33 year old man that underwent a cranial meningioma resection.
The patient had an elevation of serum lactate levels peri-operatively, with a spontaneous gradual decline in the serum lactate five hours post-operatively.
The patient had an otherwise uncomplicated post-operative course and was discharged home on the fifth post-operative day.
Elevation in serum lactate level during a large meningioma resection could be transient and may not result in morbidity.

Seligman 1990 postulated that 3 meaning frames determine whether temporary sad feelings persist and eventually evolve into clinical depression: the permanence, pervasiveness, and personal causation of negative or stressful events.
Successful treatment is thought to consist of interventions that modify these 3 meaning frames that contribute to depression.
It is suggested that use of certain classes of intervention from solution-focused psychotherapy may shorten and potentiate treatment of depression.
Solution-focused psychotherapy techniques are illustrated using a case study of a 69-yr-old man treated for depression.
